A 40-year-old man from Arshyre Farm, Banket, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of r_ping a 10-year-old girl, his neighbour, who is a Grade 2 pupil.
The incident occurred on October 12, 2024, when the offender and the young girl were herding cattle near a dam site.
Despite her young age, the girl stood her ground when the man inappropriately proposed they engage in s_xual int3rcourse, firmly refusing his advances.
In an attempt to coerce her, he offered her bubble gum, a tactic that unfortunately worked to some extent, as she was lured into a false sense of security.
Once he had her in a secluded area surrounded by bushes, he forcefully dragged her away and r_ped her, igniting a desperate scream from the terrified child.
Hearing her cries, he fled the scene, leaving the girl traumatized and alone.
After managing to gather her courage, the brave young girl returned home and recounted her horrific experience to her parents, who were understandably horrified.
They wasted no time and immediately filed a police report, ensuring that the matter was taken seriously.
Law enforcement swiftly acted on the report, leading to the prompt arrest of the perpetrator, who was then charged with the crime.
In court, evidence was presented that highlighted the psychological and emotional trauma inflicted on the victim, as well as the gravity of the offense.
The judge, acknowledging the serious nature of rape, emphasized the need to protect vulnerable children from such predatory behavior.
