Fanuel Mbedzi was sentenced to 25 years in prison by High Court Judge Justice Evangelista Kabasa at the Bulawayo High Court after being found guilty of m_rdering a villager he deemed “arrogant.”
The case stemmed from an incident on March 28, 2020, when the victim was attending a party at Mayele Mbedzi store in Beitbridge with his younger brother.
Mbedzi confronted the victim’s brother, threatening him due to perceived arrogance associated with his village.
Shortly thereafter, the victim was discovered d3ad, having suffered severe head !njuries. Forensic evidence, including a DNA test of bl00d found on tennis shoes recovered from Mbedzi’s home, linked him to the crime scene, despite his denial of involvement and claims of being home that night.
Witness testimonials reinforced the prosecution’s case, with one classmate identifying Mbedzi during the party and conveying fears about his aggressive demeanor.
Justice Kabasa, emphasizing the brutality of the murder where the victim’s head was crushed with boulders, concluded that a significant prison term was warranted and declared Mbedzi guilty as charged, sentencing him to the full 25 years.
