Gift Chimbangu, a 25-year-old man from Matekenya Village in Chief Chireya, Gokwe North, has been sentenced to 33 years in prison following his conviction for m_rder by the High Court in Gokwe.
The incident occurred on January 1 of the previous year during a lively celebration at the Zumba Business Centre, where Chimbangu and the deceased were among those dancing to music.
A v!olent altercation broke out when one of the dancers, for reasons still unclear, st@bbed another dancer with a knife, prompting Chimbangu and two others to pursue the assailant.
When their pursuit proved fruitless, Chimbangu unfairly directed his frustration towards the deceased, whom he accused of hindering their chase.
This accusation led to a heated confrontation that escalated quickly, resulting in Chimbangu stabbing the deceased in the chest with a knife, which ultimately caused the victim’s d3ath.
In a disturbing act following the att@ck, Chimbangu wiped the bl0od from the knife on his own hair before fleeing the scene of the crime.
Law enforcement was alerted promptly following a police report, which ultimately led to Chimbangu’s arrest and subsequent trial.
