In a deeply distr53ssing incident, a Durban Metro Police officer allegedly st@bbed his girlfriend who was also an officer before he took videos and pictures of her during her final moments.
The 27-year-old Durban Metro Police officer was arrested by KwaZulu-Natal police on Sunday following the incident, which happened in a flat on Joseph Nduli Street in Durban during the early hours of the morning.
According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a police spokesperson, the suspect purportedly recorded his girlfriend’s last breath and shared the footage with several individuals and on social media platforms. While it’s suggested that alcohol abus3 may have been a factor, the motive behind the st@bbing remains unclear.
“It is reported that the couple was drinking alcohol when the man allegedly st@bbed the woman to d3ath. Although the abus3 of liquor and other substances could be attributed to the suspect’s actions, it is not yet clear what could have led to the st@bbing,” Colonel Netshiunda said.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday to face charges related to the incident.
In another development, law enforcement officials achieved a breakthrough by apprehending 15 additional individuals linked to the recent spate of k!llings at the University of Fort Hare (UFH).
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, a police spokesperson, confirmed that a national task team assigned to investigate and arrest those responsible for the murd3r and attempted murd3r cases at UFH made the arrests on Sunday.
“This brings the number of those arrested in this case to 25 suspects. The suspects were arrested in various provinces over the Easter weekend including Gauteng, Eastern, Western Cape as well as KwaZulu-Natal. The fifteen suspects face a string of charges ranging from fraud, corruption, kidnapping, murd3r and attempted murd3r. They are expected to make their first court appearance on Tuesday, 2 April, in the Dimbaza Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape,” Mathe said.
