Cosmas Dube, a resident of Buglass Mine in Kadoma, found himself facing serious legal consequences after his brazen act of vehicle th3ft.
On September 17, 2024, he hired a white Nissan Note belonging to Shymore Munetsi, which was being driven by Tendai Saiti, for a trip to Manhenga, paying USD 40 for the service.
Upon returning, Dube concocted a story that required the driver to pick up his girlfriend from a nearby mining area in Kitsi.
Once the driver complied and brought the girlfriend to the location, Dube requested that Tendai excuse them for some privacy.
Trustingly, the driver stepped out of the vehicle, unaware that he was about to become a victim of th3ft.
In a shocking turn of events, Dube wasted no time and drove off with the car, leaving the driver stunned.
Following the theft, a police report was promptly filed, launching an investigation into the matter.
As the police dug deeper, they received a tip-off indicating that Dube was attempting to sell the st0len vehicle in Kadoma.
In response, detectives devised a plan to set a trap, posing as potential buyers.
During this operation, Dube was caught red-handed and subsequently arrested, facing charges of theft and deception.
When the case went before the Bindura Magistrates’ Court, Dube was met with a stiff penalty ; a 10-year prison sentence.
However, due to the court’s consideration, 2 years of that sentence were suspended for a period of 5 years, resulting in an effective sentence of 8 years behind bars.
