MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK HEIST LEAVES AUTHORITIES IN A WILD CHASE

In a daring daylight robbery (okay, nighttime, but who’s counting?), three unidentified thieves snuck into Nyamepi Campsite in Mana Pools National Park and made off with some seriously fancy gear. We’re talking cameras, binoculars, Samsung phones – the works! And the best part? They left behind a lion. Talk about prioritizing material possessions over wildlife .

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) is on high alert, with rangers and police hot on the trail. Footprints were tracked for kilometres, but it seems the suspects may have made a swift getaway by boat. Aerial and river patrols are ongoing, but so far, nothing suspicious has been spotted.

In response to the incident, MP Mutsa Murombedzi is calling for tighter security in national parks. “If thieves can infiltrate a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we need to up our game,” she said. Fair point, Mutsa!

If you’ve got any tips on the whereabouts of these sneaky thieves, ZimParks is offering a US$500 reward. So, spill the beans!

Meanwhile, armed rangers are now camping out at public campsites, and night patrols have been intensified. Let’s hope these thieves don’t strike again!
