A notable football transfer has taken place, with a prominent player from Zimbabwe, Marshall Munetsi, joining a top-tier English football club.
The athlete, who has been a key figure in his national team, has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers after a successful stint in the French league.
The transfer fee, reportedly in excess of £16 million, sets a new record for the Zimbabwean footballer.
This surpasses previous records held by other notable players from the country, including a €15 million transfer to a French club in 2020 and a €12 million move to an English club from a Belgian team.
Munetsi, who is 27 years old, underwent a medical examination before finalizing the move.
He will be joining his new team alongside a former teammate, and is expected to play a key role in reinforcing the club’s midfield.
The club had been seeking to strengthen their squad after a challenging season, and the new signing is seen as a significant boost.

His value has increased substantially in recent years, with estimates suggesting his worth has more than tripled in just two years.
At his new club, Munetsi will be joining other athletes with Zimbabwean connections, including an international teammate and a player with Zimbabwean heritage.
The club has recently seen an improvement in their fortunes, having moved out of the relegation zone with a recent victory, and the new signing is expected to contribute to their continued success.
He will be filling a key position in the team, replacing an outgoing player who is set to join a Turkish club.
Munetsi had been a key figure in the team, serving as captain and being named Player of the Season for the 2023/24 season.
