The Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET) and Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Association (MURRA) engaged candidates and the electorate working in the informal sector on Friday.
The meeting took place at Chevron, a Regency Group Hotel.
Several council candidates, including Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Ward Nine candidate Bernard Muchokwa, CCC Ward 10 candidate Allan Moyo and his Zanu PF counterpart and sitting councillor Sengerai Manyanga presented their manifestos.
VISET programmes manager Gillian Tafadzwa Chinzete said the meeting was a platform for dialogue between voters and candidates vying for council seats.
She said VISET main focus is to represent the interests of informal workers. Chinzete said they are currently mobilizing vendors to go and vote.
“We are here to encourage you that your participation is important and needed in the upcoming election. It is also a platform where the candidates will be sharing with us their manifestos especially to the informal sector,” said Chinzete.
MURRA spokesperson Godfrey Mutimba said the dialogue was important for candidates to share their manifestos with the electorate.
The candidates outlined several development projects they have carried out. They also gave the electorate a list of projects they will undertake if elected into office.
