The fraud case against Zimdancehall musician Tawanda Madondo, also known as Mbida D, has been discharged.
Madondo, who faced charges after failing to appear at a public show where he was contracted to perform, was discharged at the close of the state’s case.
The Harare provincial magistrate, who granted him bail of US$40 and remanded the matter to May 2, found that the case is purely civil.
The state failed to establish a prima facie case and essential elements of fraud.
Madondo had agreed to perform at Gororo’s Nightclub on March 30.
According to the court, he allegedly received a deposit of US$100 with the understanding that the balance would be paid after the show.
However, Madondo reportedly failed to show up on the agreed date.
