Military Takes Over In Mozambique As Protest Turn Bl0⁰dy Leaving Zimbabwean Reacting

Mozambique is currently facing a serious crisis as military forces have been deployed to manage escalating protests in the country. These protests erupted after allegations of election fraud against the ruling party, Frelimo, which has been in power for 49 years.

The unrest began following the presidential election held on October 9, where Frelimo’s candidate, Daniel Chapo, was declared the winner. Many citizens believe that the election was rigged, leading to widespread anger and demonstrations across the nation. People have taken to the streets in Maputo, the capital, expressing their frustration with the government’s actions.

General Omar Saranga, a spokesperson for the armed forces, announced that soldiers would support police efforts to maintain order. He stated, “In moments like this, with demonstrations taking place in some regions, our role also extends to supporting security forces in maintaining public order and peace.” This statement reflects the seriousness of the situation as many residents are scared and choosing to stay indoors.

On November 7, thousands of protesters gathered in Maputo. They set fires and blocked roads in what has been described as one of the largest demonstrations since the election. In response to these actions, police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds. Reports indicate that at least 20 people have d1ed due to police action during these protests.
