A 38-year-old artisanal miner from Shurugwi, identified as Promise Chisoro, tragically lost his life after being st_bbed by a fellow miner named Madhinda, following a dispute over a cigarette at Olymbia 53 Mine Bottle Store on September 30 around 8 p.m.
The v!olent altercation, which escalated from a simple disagreement, saw Madhinda reportedly infuriated when Chisoro refused to share a cigarette he had just purchased.
In a fit of rage, Madhinda broke a beer bottle and fatally stabbed Chisoro in the upper left arm, leading to the victim being rushed to Shurugwi District Hospital, where he was pronounced de@d upon arrival.
This shocking incident has drawn attention from local authorities, with Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko highlighting the disturbing trend of rising violence within the artisanal mining communities.
Expressing grave concern, Mahoko called for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect, who fled the scene immediately after the att@ck.
Authorities emphasized the necessity for peaceful conflict resolution, encouraging community members to avoid resorting to viol3nce when faced with disputes.
