A sh0cking incident unfolded in Mazowe, where a trivial dispute over a jersey escalated into a v!olent altercation between two illegal miners, resulting in a grave inj_ry.
Shadreck Delicious Mheremhere, aged 23, was drinking beer with his 40-year-old colleague, Master Kamwendo, at a local bar on September 16 when an argument broke out between them.
Tensions quickly flared, prompting Mheremhere to pull out a knife in a fit of rage.
In a horrifying act, he st_bbed Kamwendo in the eye, the force of which caused the blade to snap off, leaving Mheremhere with nothing but the knife handle in his grip.
The severity of Kamwendo’s injury was alarming, and he collapsed on the ground, bleeding profusely from the wound.
Emergency responders quickly rushed him to Concession Hospital, where the medical team assessed the extent of the damage.
Given the seriousness of the situation, Kamwendo was subsequently transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, where he underwent surgery to remove the blade lodged in his eye two days later.
Meanwhile, Mheremhere fled the scene, attempting to escape the consequences of his v!olent actions.
However, the law eventually caught up with him, and he was apprehended and charged.
At the Bindura regional magistrates courts, the prosecutor Edward Katsvairo laid out the events that transpired that fateful day.
During the proceedings, Mheremhere displayed little remorse for the altercation and its outcomes.
Magistrate Elisha Singano ultimately sentenced him to five years in jail for the grievous act.
The case highlighted the dangers of alcohol consumption and the potential for seemingly minor disputes to spiral into life-altering viol3nce.
