Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Marian Chombo has toured the Dete Solar Power Plant in Hurungwe. The Dete Solar Power Plant was constructed through the Rural Electrification Agency program aim to reduce power cuts in the country.
The Dete Solar Power Plant in Hurungwe will produce 120 kW which will service a business centre , two schools and almost 24 households. The plant is expected to be fully functional by the end of November this year.
Hon. Marian Chombo also toured a local clinic in Dete where she appreciated a solar powered borehole that is servicing the clinic and surrounding households.
The solar plant is part of REA’s contribution to clean energy in rural areas. The agency has also constructed biogas digesters at various boarding schools in the province.
