Health and Child Care Minister, Douglas Mombeshora was involved in a serious car accident on Monday afternoon when his driver hit an unidentified male cyclist.
According to insiders, the incident took place around lunchtime near Christos shopping centre in Chinhoyi, as Mombeshora was en route to attend the funeral of the late Chief Nemakonde.
Minister Mombeshora, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was fortunate to emerge from the crash unscathed. However, the car sustained significant damage upon impact.
On the other hand, the cyclist, whose identity remains unknown, bore the brunt of the impact, sustaining severe injuries. Presently, he’s in critical condition, battling for his life at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital.
A source, who wished to remain anonymous, stated,
“The man sustained serious bodily injuries and was rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital where his condition is said to be critical.”
Inspector Ian Kohwera, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) provincial spokesperson, confirmed that they had received a report about the incident, but a comprehensive report is yet to be compiled by the traffic police officers.
Sources also revealed that the accident left Health and Child Care Minister Douglas Mombeshora, who also serves as the Zanu-PF Member of Parliament for Mhangura, in a state of shock.
