Both the victim and the alleged perpetrator reside in the CA area of the St Mary’s neighborhood. The boy’s aunt, who is his guardian, became suspicious when she noticed that he was limping last Friday, but his friends who were present laughe.
The following day, the boy found it difficult to get up, and the aunt asked a male neighbour to check on him. The neighbor questioned the boy until he confessed that he had been infected with an STI by the suspect.
A report was filed at the St Mary’s Police Station, and the minor was provided with a medical affidavit to seek treatment at Chitungwiza Central Hospital.
Residents of the CA area are planning a demonstration at the home of the suspect to drive him out of the neighbourhood and protect other children from potential abuse.
One resident stated that the man took advantage of the boy’s poverty and deserves to be jailed for life. The victim had to drop out of school because his guardian could not afford to pay fees, and he was given small amounts of money to buy corn snacks (mazepi).
