President Mnangagwa has today, 08 August, 2024, officially commissioned the Dzivaresekwa flats in Harare. The flats were constructed after the flush floods that affected families in Budiriro 5 B Extension in Harare affecting 48 families who were then evacuated to Budiriro Vocational Training Centre by the Civil Protection Unit.
Some had their houses swept away, while a minor d!ed due to flood related injuries. Out of the 48 affected families, 29 opted to be relocated to Dzivarasekwa Flats, while 19 others resisted relocation and they are staying in their old houses.
The Dzivarasekwa Flats project was implemented by the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities under the Enhanced Cabinet Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Management.
Before His Excellency Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa commissioned the Dzivarasekwa flats, he toured the Instak-Museum of African Liberation in Westlea, Harare.
President Mnangagwa toured the construction site of the liberation museum, hotel, heritage village and shopping mall.
The establishment of the Museum of African Liberation is aligned with SADC’s objective to enhance and consolidate the historical, social, and cultural heritage among the people of the region.
