President Mnangagwa has left the country this afternoon for Tanzania where he will attend the Joint Summit of SADC and East African Community Heads of State and Government. The two regional blocs will explore an amicable solution to the security situation in the eastern DRC.
Nick Mangwana, the Permanent Secretary for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting has confirmed that Mnangagwa will attend the Joint Summit of SADC and East African Community Heads of State and Government which was scheduled for saturday 8th of February 2025.
“H.E President Emmerson Mnangagwa has left for Tanzania where he will attend the Joint Summit of SADC and East African Community Heads of State and Government.The two regional blocs will explore an amicable solution to the security situation in the eastern DRC,” Mangwana confirmed.
During his absence, Mnangagwa appointed his first Vice Present Gen (Rtd), Dr CGDN Chiwenga as the Acting President.
“Hon Vice President Gen (Rtd), Dr CGDN Chiwenga is the Acting President in the absence of His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” Nick Mangwana added.
Meanwhile, Hon. Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira is co-chairing the Joint Meeting of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC) in Tanzania with his Kenyan counterpart, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, Honourable Musalia Mudavadi, where the two regions are discussing the security situation and ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The Ministerial meeting will be preceded by a Joint Summit of SADC and EAC Heads of State and Government on Saturday, that will be co-chaired by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and President William Ruto of Kenya.
