President Mnangagwa has left for Gaborone, Botswana to pay an official visit to the SADC Secretariat Headquarters since assuming Chairmanship of the regional bloc in August 2024. As is tradition, SADC chairpersons visit the secretariat to engage with management and address staff.
The President’s itinerary in Botswana includes, engagements with the Secretariat staff, receiving the recently purchased SADC Secretariat Headquarters Building, and presiding over a ground-breaking ceremony to construct the SADC Standby Force Regional Logistics Depot (RLD).
During his visit to SADC Secretariat Headquarters, Mnangagwa will proceed to the Julius Nyerere SADC Library, where he will acquaint himself with the SADC History Collection. This will be followed by the unveiling of the Visiting Placard by the regional bloc chairperson.
During his tenure as SADC Chair, President Mnangagwa aims to advance the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2020-2030) and SADC Vision 2050. These strategic plans focus on industrial development, market integration, infrastructure support for regional integration, and social and human capital development.
With this visit, President Mnangagwa is reaffirming Zimbabwe’s commitment to driving SADC’s agenda and fostering unity, peace, and economic development across Southern Africa.
