President Mnangagwa has officiated at the groundbreaking Ceremony of the Titan New Energy 720MW Waste-To-Energy Power Plant and 200MW Solar Power Plant in Hwange, Matabeleland North Province.
The Titan New Energy and ZESA have established an MoU which guides construction of 720MW integrated Thermal Power Plant in Hwange and construction of 200MW Solar Power Plant in Gweru. A joint working group which will work closely to ensure project completion has been established
Titan New Energy will invest US$1 billion in establishing the 720MW waste-to-energy power plant and 200MW solar power plant. The project is scheduled for full construction completion and commercial operation by December 2028, with an expected annual power output of 5.76 GKWh.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, the first Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga described the event as momentous, setting the stage for a self-reliant Zimbabwe.
Chiwenga praised the event as a testament to President Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership, saying under the Second Republic, the President has championed policies aimed at propelling the economy forward and ensuring equitable development.
“This ground-breaking ceremony reflects the President’s foresight and dedication to ensuring that every Zimbabwean has access to energy,” VP Chiwenga said.
Vice President emphasized the significant role of energy in driving economic growth and improving the lives of the people.
