Mo Salah has sparked rumors about leaving Liverpool after hinting that this season might be his last with the club. His comments followed a standout performance in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, where he scored one goal and set up two more.
Salah’s current contract ends next summer, and after the match, he said, “This season is my last year at the club,” adding that “nobody has talked to me” about a new deal. He shared, “I had a good summer and took time for myself to stay positive because, as you know, it’s my last year here. I just want to enjoy it and not overthink it. I feel free to play football, and we’ll see what happens next year.”
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was skeptical about Salah leaving, stating, “I would be very surprised if Salah isn’t playing for Liverpool next season.”
During the game, Salah assisted Luis Diaz twice before scoring himself. In his post-match interview, Salah seemed to suggest that this might be his final season with Liverpool. He remarked, “Coming into the game, I thought it could be the last time I play here with Liverpool.”
Salah also noted, “No one at the club has discussed contracts with me, so I’m treating it as my last season and will see what happens afterward. We don’t know which club, but yes, this could be my last game here. It’s not up to me, but no one has talked to me about a contract.”

Salah’s current contract runs out next July. He joined Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2017 for a then club-record fee. Liverpool turned down a £100 million offer from Saudi Pro League team Al Ittihad at the end of the summer transfer window in 2023, as Salah wanted to stay at Liverpool. The Egyptian forward will turn 33 next June.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed his hope to keep enjoying Salah’s performances. In response to Salah’s comments, Slot said, “It’s a lot of ‘if.’ Right now, he is one of ours, and I’m really happy about that. I won’t discuss contracts, but I could talk for hours about how well Mo played.”
