Gray Mudiwa (44) and Annavester Mudiwa (39), a couple from Harare who run a construction company called Gray Homes, are facing serious fraud charges.
They are accused of scamming Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s wife, Miniyothabo, out of nearly $1 million. The money was meant for building a house, warehouse, and shopping mall, but the couple abandoned the projects.
The Mudiwas appeared in court on new fraud charges involving over $472,000. They are set to return to court on September 12 for a bail ruling.
Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje revealed that in August last year, the Mudiwas tricked businessman Anyway Choto into paying $122,163 for a warehouse project in Marondera. They only started the foundation and then used the money for themselves, leaving Choto with a loss of $105,963.

In another case, Colclare Investments, represented by Osborn Kudyanyemba, was deceived in March this year. Annavester Mudiwa convinced Kudyanyemba to supply $31,723 worth of electrical products for a hardware shop that did not exist. She promised to pay within 30 days but never did, leading to a financial loss for Kudyanyemba.
The Mudiwas also scammed Never Tembo, director of Virtuetrade Petroleum, in January. Tembo paid $390,000 for a double-storey house in Glen Lorne, but the construction was only partially completed. Tembo later found out through social media that the Mudiwas had been arrested for defrauding Chiwenga’s wife. An investigation revealed they had only used $117,000 of the payment, leaving Tembo with a loss of $273,000.
