Mthuli Ncube, along with other ministers, is set to face disciplinary action from President Mnangagwa as announced by Advocate Jacob Mudenda, the Speaker of the National Assembly.
The Speaker mentioned that cabinet ministers who consistently neglect Parliament duties without providing explanations will be subject to disciplinary measures.
During a recent Question and Answer session, Prosper Mutseyami, a Member of Parliament representing the Dangamvura constituency under the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC), highlighted the regular absence of ministers from Parliament on Wednesdays.
Speaker Mudenda acknowledged this concern and assured that he has already communicated the list of absent ministers to President Mnangagwa, citing the constitutional violation under Section 107 (2).
In response to MP Mutseyami’s query, Speaker Mudenda stated,
“I want to assure you, Honorable Mutseyami, and the House that I have written to His Excellency the President, indicating the rosters of Honorable Ministers who appear to be constantly absent in the House, contrary to Section 107 (2) of the Constitution.”
“I want to believe that His Excellency the President will take the necessary action accordingly.”
This action underscores the accountability expected from government officials regarding their parliamentary responsibilities.
