A boy who was fortunate enough to have survived after being stabbed by his mother’s lover in Mufakose but ended up detained in the hospital due to unpaid medical bills.
After being attacked by his mother’s married lover, Thomas Nyamhunga, Andile Tawananyasha Mauka was quickly taken to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, his brother, Emmanuel Tinenyasha Mauka, did not survive the assault. Another sibling managed to escape the scene and alerted the neighbours.
Although Andile was released from the hospital recently, he couldn’t leave because his family hadn’t settled the US$265 in medical bills as required by the authorities.
Michael January, Andile’s mother’s uncle, explained to source that Andile remained in the hospital because of outstanding medical bills.“Andile was discharged but could not be allowed to leave hospital over unpaid medical bills,” said Michael.
Thomas (51) was apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday while hiding at the residence of his wife Virginia Denhere’s younger sister. Thomas’s sister, known as Mai Brian, shared that he had chosen not to attend his sister’s wedding ceremony in Mutoko on Saturday.
Expressing regret about the tragic incident, Mai Brian stated,
“We are sorry about the m_rder that has affected the victims and our family at large. Thomas ndiye aifanira kusvitsa hanzvadzi yake gotwe remumba medu kumurume wake pamuchato wakaitirwa kwa Mutoko. We tried in vain to convince him to attend, unaware that his eyes and heart were after Needmore’s movements,” Mai Brian said.
