A man from Chigodora named Gift Muchuchu is experiencing strange occurrences that leave him feeling like invisible forces are pulling at his private parts and crawling inside his body.
Seeking help, he went to the community court of Headman Chigodora for advice.
Muchuchu says these odd events began when he found a chicken foot in one of his ex-wife’s bags.
She had kept it a secret, and when he confronted her, she claimed it was used to make an oil she wore as decoration. In many cultures, chicken feet are believed to protect against evil spirits and negative energy.
“I often feel my privates being pulled, and it feels like something is crawling all over me. I even have breathing difficulties as I feel things blocking my nose. I pray for help, and sometimes the sensations go away, but I end up feeling weak,” he explained. He noted that things became strange after his wife got sick following a visit to her family in Zimunya.
Muchuchu shared that after they married in 2019, he had to leave her at his rural home while he worked in Bulawayo. A couple of weeks later, she insisted on coming to live with him and claimed she had been attacked by his deceased father.

“I was shocked since my father had already passed away. She said she was hurt on her ribcage and back, but I thought she was imagining things. Soon after, she started saying she was being bewitched by my relatives and grew very ill,” he said. Because of her illness, he took her back to her parents for spiritual healing.
Once she returned, Muchuchu noticed she was acting strangely and wouldn’t allow him to touch her. After a month, she came back with strange markings all over her body. When he asked her about it, she didn’t reply. Then, while going through her things, he discovered the chicken foot.
When he asked about it, she said it helped her with her health. After this, he began to have strange dreams and became sick, prompting him to change churches. He began attending a new group where his wife was labeled a witch, but he felt better after they prayed for him.
Despite divorcing his wife, Muchuchu said his problems continued. He pleaded with the court for help. He revealed that while in a trance, he had eaten her vomit, which he oddly linked to his initiation into a form of Satanism.
“I don’t know how it happened, but she gave me a love potion and told me that I was now part of her family,” he explained. He mentioned seeing an eland (a type of antelope) in his rural home, which is the totem of his ex-wife’s family. Believing these strange experiences were linked to being initiated into Satanism, he felt troubled.
Kudakwashe Maina, an aide to Headman Chigodora, confirmed that Muchuchu had indeed eaten his wife’s vomit while in a trance, which was believed to be part of the initiation. The family sought to understand whether Muchuchu had been drawn into Satanism because of his ex-wife.
Chrispen, Muchuchu’s brother, expressed concern, stating they suspected that their brother had been initiated into dark practices by his former wife.
Headman Chigodora decided to postpone the hearing, giving the Muchuchu family time to seek help from traditional healers.
