Ellen Mhukayesango, a resident of Mutasa in Manicaland, has recently gained attention after alleging that she is being haunted by the gh0st of a deceased neighbor.
The situation has escalated to the local court, where Ellen is facing accusations from her late neighbor’s family, who claim she has tainted the reputation of their home.
Ellen, aged 52, initially sought help from the local court last month, claiming that she was being disturbed by a gh0st she believes to be that of her late neighbor, Mai Lloyd Dzingai.
According to Ellen, Mai Lloyd had passed away five years prior after taking a protective charm from a prophet in Gandanzara, near Rusape. Ellen had sought this charm to protect herself from witchcraft.
Ellen asserts that Mai Lloyd’s gh0st is now tormenting her, manifesting itself in her kitchen. This distress has led her to relocate her cooking area multiple times without finding relief. Ellen has reported these disturbances to the local court, where she faces accusations from the Dzingai family.
Sharon Mhukayesango, Ellen’s daughter, along with other family members, has brought Ellen before the court, accusing her of discrediting their household. Sharon expressed surprise at the situation, stating that the family was unaware of the details until Ellen formally presented her case. She has urged Ellen to clarify whether she is indeed responsible for the supposed ghostly disturbances.

Ellen had previously described her experiences with the ghost to the court. She recounted that Mai Lloyd’s spirit would cause disturbances, including frightening occurrences related to snakes. Ellen had initially left her previous home due to these disturbances, but the haunting persisted, leading her to suspect witchcraft.
Ellen sought help from another prophet in Gandanzara, who provided her with a protective charm to be kept near her kitchen stove. Ellen described how Mai Lloyd and two other women had visited her home, claiming that something was disrupting their work. Ellen was puzzled by their claims, as they did not explain what was wrong but took the charm from her kitchen.
Mai Lloyd’s family has disputed Ellen’s claims, with Casper Dzingai, Mai Lloyd’s surviving spouse, asserting that Ellen’s accusations are unfounded. Casper claimed that Ellen’s reports of ghostly disturbances are merely a way to deflect attention from her own actions. He argued that Ellen should bring her accusations to the court with evidence, rather than making unverified claims.
Casper recounted the recent loss of several family members, including his wife, as part of a larger tragedy, and suggested that Ellen might be responsible for their deaths through w1tchcraft. He emphasized that the loss of his family members was not related to any supposed ghostly presence but rather due to Ellen’s own actions.
The local chief, Mambo Mutasa, has decided that the case will continue to be heard in court. He stated that the family will be given an opportunity to seek the guidance of traditional healers to clarify the situation surrounding Mai Lloyd’s ghost and Ellen’s claims.
