Former S.A President Nelson Mandela’s house now haunted and rotten

Former S.A President Nelson Mandela’s house now haunted and rotten

The Mandela family has abandoned Nelson Mandela’s house in Johannesburg, and it now looks haunted and rotten.

The former President d!ed in 2013 at the age of 95. His private residence was the Mandela Mansion in Houghton Estate, Johannesburg, a property that went into the Zindzi Mandela Family Trust after his d3ath. However, despite the mansion now being in the hands of Zindzi Mandela, she completely abandoned it, and it is losing value.

In 2014, there was an uproar after squatters vandalised and tore down the R2 million house. They went in and started staying there since the Mandela family abandoned it.

Neighbours told IOL:

“Rats are running wild in the thick undergrowth. People urinate and throw rubbish onto the pavement. We have complained, but nothing gets done because an influential family owns it. This property, worth a couple of million rands, belongs to a person who last year asked for legal aid in a case involving a burial dispute.”

Nine years on, Nelson Mandela’s house has dilapidated and degenerated into a sorry ruin. Pictures trending online show unattended thick grass growing outside the perimeter wall. The toilet seats and basins have since decoloured into a disgusting brownish-cream colour, and the taps have spider webs now.

Termites have been viciously feasting on the wooden doors so much that the house is full of wood chaff. The walls of Mandela’s home are getting filthy by the day, and the stained ceilings could fall off at any time.

“Sell That House!”
The house no longer looks like it accommodated the global icon and unifier that Nelson Mandela was. And South Africans online are furious.

Nonky:

‘Abo “average citizens who pass by daily” must do something about it.”

Nyuku:

“SELL IT.”

Belle:

“Why did Graca and his family abandon it? What’s the story behind it being abandoned? Let’s start here first.”

Mercy:

“ANC is supposed to be taking care of this house. I mean, how useless can they be?”

Emmy:

“As long as they are fighting for his estate, by the time they are done, everything he owned would have perished….Ke neng baelwa, Others balwela le mekoti ya ya Bafu haai.”
