Nine children in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, were hospitalized on Monday after consuming packets of chips purchased from a local spaza shop.
The young patients exhibited severe stomach cramps and sought medical attention.

In a statement, Andrew Stroebel, the Mayor of the Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM), confirmed, “The children received prompt care with their parents or guardians by their sides throughout the ordeal. Thankfully, all nine children have recovered and were later discharged.”
Stroebel also announced that environmental health practitioners from the GRDM have launched an investigation into the incident.
As part of the standard procedures, the chips will be sent for laboratory testing, and the results will be made public once available.
