Nomcebo Zuma, the 21-year-old daughter of former President Jacob Zuma, has been unveiled as King Mswati III’s new liphovela (official girlfriend) in eSwatini.
According to sources, the king is expected to pay a lobolo (bride price) of R2 million and 100 head of cattle for Nomcebo. Despite her father’s disapproval, Nomcebo made her first public appearance alongside one of the king’s 15 wives, Siphelele Mashwama, at the opening of a chicken project in Malkerns, eSwatini.
The development comes after Jacob Zuma stormed out of lobolo negotiations two weeks ago, reportedly feeling betrayed by the king’s change of heart. Initially, the king had proposed that his son marry Nomcebo, but later revealed that he wanted her for himself.
Zuma’s family member revealed that he was angry and felt deceived by the king’s actions. Despite this, Nomcebo’s mother, Nonkululeko Hloniphile Mhlongo, has continued with the negotiations, eyeing the lucrative lobolo price.
The king’s new relationship has also caused a stir among his wives, who had believed that there would be no further additions to the family due to his age.
The development has sparked interest and debate among the public, with many questioning the king’s motives and the impact on his relationships with his wives and family. The king’s spokesperson, Percy Simelane, has declined to comment on the matter, citing the king’s private life.
