The NRZ Safety, Health and Environment branch has been conducting a series of awareness campaigns on the North Line, particularly on the Hwange-Victoria Falls stretch.
The campaigns were initiated in response to a recent spike in accid3nts on the railway line, which has resulted in a significant number of fatalities and injur!es.
The main cause of these acc!dents has been identified as motorists failing to observe level crossings, which has led to numerous incid3nts of trains colliding with vehicles.
In a bid to reduce this alarming trend, the NRZ Safety, Health and Environment branch has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at educating motorists on the dangers of ignoring level crossings.
As part of this campaign, NRZ officials have been conducting door-to-door outreach programs in local communities, distributing educational materials and holding public meetings to educate residents on the importance of safety around the railway lines.
The campaign also includes the installation of warning signs and markings at level crossings to alert motorists of the dangers of crossing railway lines.
In addition to the community outreach programs, NRZ also took time to engage local schools, educating pupils on safety around the tracks and raising awareness against vandalism and theft.
The aim is to instill good habits and values in young minds from an early age, thereby reducing the likelihood of accid3nts and promoting a culture of safety among future generations.
The school-based awareness campaign has been well-received by pupils, teachers, and parents alike, with many expressing gratitude for the initiative. “We are grateful for the awareness campaign as it has helped us understand the importance of safety around the railway lines,” said one pupil. “We will make sure to spread the word to our friends and family.”
