National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has come under fire for allegedly paying its pensioners a paltry $40 per month, leaving many struggling to make ends meet.
According to reports, this revelation was made by Highfields Legislator Donald Mavhudzi, who expressed shock and outrage at the situation.
Mavhudzi, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, has called for urgent action to address the issue.
The committee has launched an inquiry into the matter, with the aim of finding a solution to this crisis.
According to Mavhudzi, the $40 monthly payout is not only inadequate but also demeaning to the retirees who have worked hard to contribute to the pension fund. He emphasized that this is not only a humanitarian crisis but also a financial one, as many pensioners are forced to live on meager means.
The committee has summoned NSSA officials to appear before them to explain the situation and provide solutions. Mavhudzi stated that the authority’s failure to provide adequate pensions is not only unacceptable but also unconstitutional. He added that parliament will do everything in its power to ensure that the interests of pensioners are protected.
The parliamentary committee’s inquiry aims to provide answers to these questions and find a lasting solution to this pressing issue.
The outcome of the inquiry will be crucial in determining whether NSSA will be able to provide a better standard of living for its pensioners.
