Naphy Banda, a 47-year-old male theater nurse at Kaoma District Hospital in Zambia, has allegedly committed su!cide by injecting himself with a local anesthetic used in operating theaters.
The incident was confirmed yesterday by the Western Province Commissioner of Police, Mukuka Chileshe, who relayed the information to ZANIS.
Mr. Chileshe reported that Mr. Banda was found dece@sed in the hospital’s theater department at approximately 20:00 hours on Saturday, May 11, 2024. His colleagues discovered his body while attending to a patient in another theater room.
“The dece@sed body was discovered by colleagues attending to a patient in another theater room and no physical injuries were observed, but a used needle and bottles of Lignocaine and Diazepam chemicals were found nearby.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. Banda injected himself with Lignocaine, a local anesthetic commonly used in operating theaters, leading to his de@th.
Further inquiries revealed that Mr. Banda had been experiencing marital disputes, which may have contributed to his decision to take his own life.
Health experts have indicated that Lignocaine, if administered intravenously, can be lethal, whereas Diazepam, another chemical, can induce sleep.
