The Minister of Defence forces, Hon Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has led the National Tree Planting Day commemorations in Chirumhanzu District in the Midlands. The event was supposed to be led by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa but due to his absence, he assigned the the Defence Minister to take the duty.
According to the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services’ X post, newsreportzim.com has learned that Hon Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri led the National Tree Planting Day commemorations in Chirumhanzu District.

The event coincides with the launch of the Presidential Legacy Forests Program which will see 16 230 indigenous, eucalyptus and assorted fruit trees being planted across the country. The theme for this year’s event was “Trees & forests for ecosystem restoration & improved livelihoods.
National Tree Planting Day in Zimbabwe is celebrated on the first Saturday of December each year. The day was declared in 1980 and is a campaign by the Forestry Commission to encourage the nation to plant and conserve trees
