An activist affiliated with the opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) has fled Zimbabwe due to concerns of persecution by suspected state security agents.
Laizah Kwari, a longstanding opposition member, expressed fear for her life after being under surveillance by alleged Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operatives.
She cited her outspoken advocacy against socio-economic and political injustices as the reason for attracting the attention of the CIO.
Kwari reported receiving threatening messages and phone calls, leading her to seek refuge in Canada. She intends to stay there until there is a change of government in Zimbabwe, citing a deteriorating political environment marked by violence and harassment of opposition members.
Kwari comes from a political background, with her father being a prominent opposition figure.
