A disturbing incident has come to light at Botha Gold Mine in Bindura, where two prominent businessmen, Farai Matsika and Edison Gatsi, are accused of launching a vicious physical attack on a female General Manager.
The alleged assault occurred after the General Manager denied Matsika and Gatsi entry into the mine with heavy equipment, citing their lack of a contract or legal right. Witnesses claim that Gatsi physically attacked the woman, leaving her injured and destroying her mobile phone.
Mine security intervened swiftly, preventing the situation from escalating further. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many condemning the alleged actions of Matsika and Gatsi.
“This is not the Zimbabwe we want!” said one mine worker who witnessed the altercation. “How can senior businessmen attack a woman just for doing her job?”
The victim has since reported the assault to Bindura Central Police Station, but there are concerns that the accused may use their wealth and influence to avoid justice.
This is not the first time Matsika and Gatsi have been embroiled in controversy. In 2021, they faced allegations of stripping a life assurance firm of its assets, raising questions about their ethical standards.
The incident has highlighted the need for greater accountability and protection for women in the workplace, particularly in male-dominated industries.
As one witness noted, “This brazen attack is not just an assault on one woman, it is an affront to professional women everywhere who face intimidation and aggression.”
