PARIRENYATWA Group of Hospitals has received cancer medication worth US$50 000 which is expected to go a long way in providing comprehensive care for cancer patients.
The donation made possible through a fundraising conducted in October last year by ZB Bank and Pick ‘n Pay through the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe is meant to ensure cancer treatment is affordable and accessible.
Cancer Association of Zimbabwe General Manager Mrs Junior Mavhu said, ‘Partnering is a noble idea because when you work as an individual you don’t cover much but when you work as a team you achieve a lot. So am encouraging other stakeholders and organizations to rally behind cancer treatment, cancer diagnosis, and procuring cancer machines so that at the end of the day whatever we are doing we are doing it for the good of the patient.
In October we partnered with TM Pick and Pay together with CABS it was Zumba every Saturday from September to the end of October for Cabs it was from donating a cent from every CABS swipe machine that was used so that money that was generated within that October month is the money that we got today.”
Head of the Radiotherapy Department at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals,tizi Dr Nothando Mutizira expressed gratitude for the generous donation.
“Today we received a big donation of chemotherapy drugs that are meant to cover treatment for most of the common cancers that we treat daily. We have a challenge of our patients not being able to afford these drugs such that it leaves us in a difficult situation where we are not able to deliver the treatment that we hope to deliver to our patients with the availability of these drugs where our patients are not going to be buying them since it is a donation will make our job a lot easier because then we are guaranteed that our patient will be able to receive the treatment that we will have prescribed.”
The medication is expected to reduce the financial burden on patients and their families while also contributing to a better quality of life for those battling the disease.
