Mauricio Pochettino has defended Reece James, following his recent one-match suspension, insisting that the right-back will learn from his mistake.
James was shown a yellow for using abusive language on match officials during the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa before the international break.
The player’s reaction came as a result of passion, because he wasn’t even playing at the time, but Pochettino is confident his captain will do better moving forward.
“It’s part of the game,” the Argentine said.
“He was not satisfied with a situation, and you also have to understand that he has been involved in the project from the start.
“He feels bad that he cannot help the team. He made a mistake. We all do, and he’s upset about it.
“I don’t think he will repeat that situation.
“I got a yellow card myself against Burnley and I’m 51 years old. Sometimes young kids make mistakes.”
