A once-renowned football star, Elton Chimedza, now serving as a Correctional Officer at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, is recovering from injuries sustained in a violent attack by robbers in Mabvuku. The 42-year-old officer, formerly associated with CAPS United, fell victim to an assailant wielding an iron rod.
Chimedza, the elder brother of former Warriors star Cephas Chimedza, currently residing in Belgium, experienced the assault while strolling along Chakari Street around 9 pm after leaving Moonlight Bar on his way home.
Police confirm Elton Chimedza robbery attack
Harare Provincial spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, officially confirmed the incident, stating,
“Police are currently investigating a robbery case involving weapons, where the complainant was attacked and left unconscious.”
Providing details of the incident, Inspector Chakanza explained, “On February 23, at approximately 9:00 pm, the complainant was walking home. In a poorly lit section along Chakari Street, an unidentified person armed with an iron rod attacked him. The assailant proceeded to search the complainant’s pockets, making off with a brown wallet containing a National ID card, ZPCS ID card, FBC Bank Card, PSMAS card, Nyaradzo card, and a Nokia Cellphone C21.”
The injured complainant was promptly taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital for thorough medical examinations, Inspector Chakanza added.
The law enforcement authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrator responsible for this vicious attack. Inspector Chakanza urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
