Three seasoned police detectives, Valentine Dhliwayo, James Chiduwo, and Isaac Musungati, have found themselves on the wrong side of the law, facing severe allegations of ass@ult against a suspect in a burglary case.
The trio, attached to the CID Chiredzi, made a court appearance before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court, where they were confronted with charges of physically absing a suspect.
According to the prosecution’s narrative, on the evening of January 14, 2023, the detectives descended upon the suspect’s residence in Tshovani, Chiredzi, with the intention of investigating a reported break-in and th#ft.
However, upon failing to recover the st0len items, including a laptop and a substantial sum of $10,000, they allegedly resorted to vi0lent means, taking the suspect into custody and inflicting physical h@rm, resulting in a leg fracture.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has presented a statement, and the detectives have been remanded until August 30, 2024, pending the continuation of their trial.
“After failing to recover any stolen property comprising a laptop and US$10,000, they took the complainant to CID Chiredzi and ass@ulted him. The complainant suffered a fracture on the leg,” reads a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe.
