Police in KwaZulu-Natal are seeking for suspects after two improvised bombs were discovered at a mosque in Durban North. A security guard observed a suspicious vehicle entering the mosque’s driveway about midnight and an occupant placing an object in the bushes near the entrance. The device was discovered to be a bomb attached to about 40 meters of detonation cable.
According to Brigadier Jay Naicker, the provincial police spokesperson, preliminary investigations indicate that unknown individuals were intercepted by a security vehicle as they attempted to deliver the explosives. The suspects escaped, dropping the devices onto the mosque grounds.
The security officer who witnessed the incident notified authorities, and police bomb technicians confirmed that the devices were handmade bombs.
Fortunately, the bombs were not rigged to detonate, and it is suspected that the suspects were on their way to another place when they were interrupted.
Police are presently investigating and hunting for the suspects. The authorities praised the security guard for his quick action and urged the community to follow his lead by reporting any suspicious gadgets without touching them.
