In a series of successful anti-smuggling operations, police in Bulilimamangwe have recovered a smuggled vehicle and arrested several individuals involved in smuggling activities.
On March 28, 2025, police intercepted a smuggled red Honda Fit vehicle bearing Zimbabwean registration number plates ADY 4016 at the 80-kilometer peg along the Plumtree-Dombotema Road. Despite a high-speed chase, the driver managed to escape, prompting a thorough investigation. It was later discovered that the vehicle was registered in the name of a Motswana national.
In a separate incident, Max Gatagata (49) was arrested on March 27, 2025, for smuggling assorted goods, including bales of blankets, tracksuits, clothing, and satchels, along the Plumtree-Vaka Road near Nxele Dam, Plumtree.
Furthermore, on April 1, 2025, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics in Harare received a tip-off about a foreign-registered Toyota Quantum kombi carrying Broncleer Cough Syrup from Bulawayo to Harare. The detectives intercepted the kombi at Kadoma Toll Gate along Harare-Bulawayo Road, leading to the arrest of Rodrick Chambe (39). The driver of the kombi fled the scene, and 42 boxes containing 50 X 100 mls of Broncleer Cough Syrup, valued at USD 16,400, were recovered.
These successful operations are part of a broader campaign to combat smuggling in the region. The police urge the public to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
