In an astonishing twist of fate, a police officer stationed in Mutare, Irvine Matare, found himself at the center of an adultery scandal after being duped by the husband of a woman he was allegedly dat!ng.
The husband, Daniel Sharara, played a clever role, posing as the teenage bride to lure Matare to their home, ultimately leading to a shocking demand for compensation.
The incident came to light after Chief Mutasa ordered Matare to pay damages consisting of three cattle, a goat, and a rooster for his part in disrupting Sharara’s marriage to 18-year-old Primrose Machiwenyika.
The dispute escalated to a traditional court after Matare contested an initial claim of $1,800 as adultery damages made by Sharara.
Daniel Sharara recounted his investigative journey, which began when he stumbled upon love messages sent by Matare to his wife.

Instead of confronting Matare directly, he took a cunning approach. “I had my wife’s phone in hand when a flirty message from this officer appeared. Instead of responding as her, I messaged him from my own phone, pretending to be her and directing him to a new number,” Sharara explained.
Matare, unaware of the ruse, fell deeper into the trap, sending a series of passionate messages, indicating he was fully aware of Primrose’s marital status. “He made several inappropriate requests and indulged in flirtatious conversations. My brother and I plotted to catch him red-handed. I invited him over to our home, which he accepted without hesitation,” Sharara continued, revealing how he confronted Matare at the arranged meet-up.
After confronting Matare and securing his phone and car keys, Sharara took the matter to his in-laws, seeking a resolution. During this meeting, Matare was asked to compensate Sharara for the emotional turmoil caused. Initially, he agreed to the sum of $1,800 and even offered his vehicle as collateral; however, he later expressed fears about potential repercussions from Sharara and requested privacy regarding the incident.
Primrose acknowledged the brief relationship with Matare, claiming it was mainly limited to text exchanges and that they had a purely non-physical connection. “We were together for less than a week. He knew I was married, but he professed his love for me regardless,” she stated.
In his defense, Matare vehemently denied any wrongdoing, insisting he was unaware of Primrose’s marital status. He claimed their communication had ceased when she finally revealed she was married, and contended that Sharara was attempting to deflect blame by accusing him of statutory rape due to Primrose’s age. “Her husband got her pregnant when she was only 15,” he argued.
However, Chief Mutasa rejected Matare’s attempts to shift the conversation away from his actions, emphasizing that the issue was his involvement with a married woman. “A married woman is off-limits,” he declared, firmly asserting that Matare should take responsibility for his actions.
In his ruling, Chief Mutasa ordered Matare to pay three cattle, a goat, and a rooster, a heavier penalty than usual due to Matare’s blatant disregard for the sanctity of marriage. He was given until November 30 to settle the payment, with each beast valued at $350. Despite the ruling, Matare expressed his intention to appeal the decision in the High Court, protesting his innocence and challenging the outcome of the case.
