ZANU PF’s Thomas Chidzomba might be trading in his politician hat for a prison cap after white farmer Brinsk Bosman accused him of assault. Bosman claims Chidzomba and his crew attacked him and his farm guard on his 578.54-hectare farm in Lions’ Den. Because who needs a farm when you can just take it over, right?
The drama unfolded when Chidzomba, armed with a power of attorney from Kindness Paradza (now a commissioner at the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission), decided to play land agent. But Paradza later withdrew the power of attorney, leaving Chidzomba high and dry.
The State initially charged Chidzomba and his colleagues with unlawful occupation, but the case was withdrawn after plea. Now, Bosman has filed a report of assault, and Chidzomba might be facing a different kind of “farm” – a prison cell.
Chidzomba’s lawyer claimed he acted with authority, but it seems that authority was revoked just in time. Bosman, on the other hand, has an offer letter for the farm dating back to 2004. Who will the law side with? The politician with alleged connections or the farmer with papers?
The outcome is uncertain, but one thing is clear: Chidzomba’s political career might be in jeopardy. After all, who wants to vote for someone who’s prone to fisticuffs?
