Tragedy struck a family from Snohomish, Washington, when 26-year-old Sophia Tsaruk and her 25-year-old husband, Ilya Tsaruk, drowned during their vacation in Hawaii, leaving their 18-month-old son, Logan, orphaned.
The couple encountered distress while swimming at the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve in Maui on Saturday, September 14, prompting a call to the Maui Fire Department for assistance.
Rescuers arrived to find Sophia unresponsive approximately 100 to 150 yards offshore and immediately pulled her from the water.
Despite efforts to revive both Sophia and Ilya with CPR, emergency medical responders pronounced them d3ad at the scene.
Tragically, Sophia was pregnant with a baby girl at the time of her passing, as shared by a friend who set up a GoFundMe to support the family.
Friends and family have been mourning the loss, with Sophia remembered fondly for her joyful spirit and her love for her growing family.
Photos from her social media showcase moments of happiness, including her cradling her pregnant belly in anticipation of welcoming her second child.
Meanwhile, baby Logan is currently being cared for by his aunt and uncle during this heartbreaking time.
