The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has announced President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa’s upcoming inauguration and swearing-in ceremony.
Mnangagwa secured a second five-year term in the recent presidential elections, as announced by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) last Saturday. According to figures released by the Elections Commission, he garnered 52.6% of the vote, while his opponent Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens for Change Coalition (CCC) received 44%.
The outcome has been rejected by Chamisa’s party and questioned by several election observers. Nevertheless, President-elect Mnangagwa remains undeterred and is forging ahead with his inauguration and swearing-in ceremony.

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Swearing-In and Inauguration Ceremony 2023 Strict Entry Criteria
An invitation to heads of election observer missions, signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Secretary James Manzou, discloses that the ceremony is scheduled for Monday 4 September at the National Sports Stadium.
Interestingly, attendance at the event is subject to certain conditions set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Specifically, only heads of election observer missions whose respective states or governments are attending will be allowed to enter the venue.
The Ministry said that Emmerson Mnangagwa has already extended an invitation to his fellow Presidents.
The statement reads:
The Inauguration and Swearing-in Ceremony of His Excellency, Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa as the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe is scheduled for Monday, 04 September 2023 at the National Sports Stadium.
His Excellency has invited his counterparts to attend the event.
Please be advised that only Heads of Missions whose Heads of State/Government are attending the inauguration ceremony will be allowed to come.
