Former Public Service and Social Welfare Minister, Prisca Mupfumira, has been acquitted after facing trial for alleged corruption involving US$90 million at NSSA.
The ruling was delivered by Deputy Chief Magistrate Ngoni Nduna on Saturday.
Mupfumira had been accused of improperly influencing NSSA to enter into an agreement with Drawcard, a land development firm, without following the required tender process.
However, the magistrate ruled that Mupfumira was not guilty.
According to Zimbabwemail ,the magistrate noted that she did not serve on the NSSA Board, and therefore, could not be held accountable for the organisation’s decisions.
Mupfumira was represented by Admire Rubaya of Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners, who maintained her innocence throughout the trial.
She claimed that her trial was politically motivated because of her support to President Emmerson Mnangagwa during his time as vice president.
The court found that NSSA’s legal services section failed to properly advise the board, resulting in procedural irregularities.
It also disregarded any allegations of earlier dealings between Mupfumira and Drawcard, claiming that there was no proof of improper favors or consideration.
