Grace Family International Church founder Prophet Evidence Chari could be arrested after failing to appear in court today.
The cleric was to appear at the Harare Magistrates Court today facing charges of assault. Prophet Chari reportedly thrashed Prophetess Haddasah Caroline and also allegedly threatened to beat her up after she had lent him a car and he crashed it.
Harare Magistrate Ntombizodwa Sibanda issued the warrant of arrest after Prophet Chari pulled a no show in court. He also did not provide any reason for absconding.
On Friday, the controversial Man of God appeared before Magistrate Farai Gore and was remanded out of custody for assault and threats.
On 12 January 2024 at around 9 pm at Kingstone House, at the intersection of Leopold Takawira and Kwame Nkrumah Road in Harare, a dispute erupted between Prophet Chari and Prophetess Haddasah. The disagreement centered around a vehicle belonging to the Prophetess, which had been involved in an accident while Chari drove it.
The source reported that Chari allegedly escalated the situation by issuing threats to Prophetess Haddasah life and her family members. He asserted his identity with the ominous statement:
“Ndokunyudza iwe nemhuri yenyu, do you know who I am? I am Evidence Chari handinhongwe mumastreets emuZimbabwe zvekudaro.”
Subsequently, Chari reportedly called in colleagues who claimed affiliation with the Office of President and Cabinet, and they proceeded to threaten Prophetess Haddasah and her mother with physical harm.
On a separate occasion, on January 16 around 5 pm at the Main Post office in Harare, a second encounter unfolded. Prophetess Haddasah attempted to engage Prophet Chari to resolve the previous conflicts. However, the situation took a violent turn as the Prophet allegedly banged the door of the Prophetess’ open car, causing injuries.
Prophet Chari then targeted Prophetess Haddasah’s acquaintance, Frank Felix Nyeche, prompting a call for physical assault. Prophetess Haddasah and Nyeche sustained injuries before fleeing to a nearby shop, with Haddasah showing visible bruises on her body.
