A self-proclaimed faith healer is facing serious allegations after reportedly s_xually ass@ulting a 19-year-old female patient at her parents’ residence in Kariba.
The accused individual, prophet Kudakwashe Gwembe, aged 43 and residing in Msasa, Harare, is said to have committed the offence during a supposed spiritual healing session at the victim’s family home in the resort town.
The incident came to light recently when Gwembe appeared before Kariba Magistrate Rumbidzai Tshuma, where he was charged with r_pe. He has been remanded in custody until November 17, with the suggestion to seek bail from the High Court. Gwembe will subsequently report to the Karoi regional magistrate.
According to the prosecution, led by Carren Modina Musiiwa, the accused allegedly r@ped the complainant on October 23 and 24 in Nyamhunga suburb, Kariba, under the guise of casting out evil spirits. Disturbingly, after the acts took place, Gwembe threatened the victim by claiming he possessed the ability to reintroduce the demons that had previously afflicted her, causing seizures and unexplained illnesses.
The victim, initially gripped by fear, kept the distressing incidents to herself for a few days before confiding in her family members. Subsequently, her family promptly reported the matter to the police, leading to Gwembe’s arrest on October 31.
