In a surprising turn of events, Prophetess Nhapata from Trinity International Fellowship Ministry faced consequences for meddling with a d3ad body after Chief Seke imposed a fine of 10 cattle on her.
This comes after the family of the deceased, Gift Takudzwa Shiriyapenga, contested her actions, asserting that she had no right to interfere without their consent.
Apostle Nhapata, acknowledging the act, claimed she intended to pray for Shiriyapenga’s resurrection. This, however, angered Shiriyapenga’s mother, Agnes Bhiza, who took the matter to Chief Seke’s court.
Nhapata, seemingly shocked, expressed her inability to comment further as the case was pending before a criminal court.
Nhapata, 59 years old, was apprehended along with Smoller Chazireni, 43, for their audacious attempt to bring a corpse back to life in October 2022.
The incident unfolded on September 27, leaving the community bewildered. Nhapata and Chazireni visited Nyaradzo Funeral Parlour, claiming that Shiriyapenga was still alive. Their actions, including prayers and physical manipulation of the body, resulted in the body being left outside the mortuary overnight.
Following her arrest, Nhapata defended her actions, stating that she was merely “exercising her faith” and expressed willingness to face legal consequences for what she believed was “God’s work.” This assertion has sparked a public debate, with concerns raised about her actions’ ethical and legal implications.
Despite claiming to have successfully resurrected ten individuals before, Nhapata’s lack of connection with Shiriyapenga raises questions about her motives and her ability to perform such feats. Legal authorities charged her and Chazireni with violating a corpse, a serious offence with potential legal ramifications.
This incident has triggered a heated debate in Zimbabwe, where faith and belief play significant roles. The attempted mortuary resurrection by the self-proclaimed prophetess forces a reevaluation of the boundaries between religion, legality, and morality. As the investigation unfolds, the public awaits more information on this startling event.
It serves as a stark reminder that even profoundly held beliefs should be scrutinized within the framework of the law. In a country where faith has immense significance, striking the right balance between religious practices and legal obligations becomes crucial.
