ZIMBABWE is expecting cloudy conditions and localised showers today as the country moves gradually into the rainy season.
The Meteorological Services Department head of forecasting Mr James Ngoma said the rains will be accompanied by thundershowers in some parts of the country.
“The hot and humid conditions that we are currently experiencing are because of the moisture that is expected to approach the country from the western parts of the subcontinent in Botswana into the western districts and provinces, namely Matabeleland North and South.
“These should give us thundershowers in these provinces. We are expecting more moisture to drift in and cause cloudy conditions for much of the country with localised downpours. We are also expecting cooler conditions over Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Manicaland as we get into Thursday,” he said.
Zimbabwe is not facing a heatwave but the sweltering weather conditions are because of gathering moisture.
“These conditions are normal. We get a few sunny breaks here and there that tend to give us our hot daytime conditions. However, it’s a very short period of time therefore it cannot be classified as a heatwave but rather intermittent dry conditions that are common during this season,” Mr Ngoma said.
