Real Madrid is set to sign Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen after agreeing to pay his £50m release clause. The Spanish giant is in direct talks with Huijsen’s camp in Madrid to finalize the contract agreement. The 20-year-old Spain international is close to agreeing personal terms with Real Madrid, having turned down offers from Premier League clubs Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle.
The fee will be paid in three instalments, with 10% going to Juventus and 5% to Malaga, Huijsen’s former clubs. Notably, Huijsen signed his Bournemouth contract less than 12 months ago after moving from the Italian Serie A.
Incoming Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso reportedly prioritized signing a young centre-back and played a key role in the decision to sign Huijsen. This move will see Huijsen return to Spain, where he grew up playing for Costa Unida CF academy in Marbella and Malaga’s youth team.
Huijsen has chosen Real Madrid over other top clubs, and his impressive performances for Bournemouth this season likely played a role in the Spanish giants’ interest. This season, Huijsen has made 34 appearances for the Cherries, scoring three times.
